Korean War Remembrance Ceremony (6.25 육이오)

June 25, also known as 육이오 (yook-ee-oh or 6-2-5) signifies the start of the Korean War, also known as The Forgotten War. The Korea Center of Greenville, along with the Veterans History Museum of the Carolinas, will host a Korean War 75th Anniversary Ceremony in Brevard, NC. This ceremony will honor 3 groups of people:

  1. the 1.8 million Americans who fought in Korea during this 3 year war,

  2. the 2.5 million U.S. service members who have deployed to South Korea to maintain the peace since the end of the war,

  3. the resilient people of South Korea who suffered an existential threat, but persevered and prevailed, going on to build one of the world’s most vibrant economies and democratic societies.

The ceremony will feature speaker presentations from:

  1. Dr. Peter S Yun - a retired economics professor from the University of Virginia. He was abandoned as a child in war-torn Korea.

  2. Lt. Gen. John M. Brown III - U.S. Army (Ret.), is a Silver Star recipient who has served as Commander of U.S. Army Pacific.

There will be multiple examples of traditional Korean culture presented at the ceremony:

  1. The Korea School Children’s Choir
